content management

Content management systems ( cms ) are simply a set of pages that are accessible only by the owner of the site, and which are used to add to and edit all or part of the website's content via simple forms.

The type of content that is manageable can range from just a couple of paragraphs of text on a single page through to all content on every page. In short, you take control over what becomes simply another facet of your business. You do not need to contact a designer every time a new page needs to be added; simply create it yourself.

I have over the years developed and refined a core cms, onto which can be added a variety of modules that have been developed over a number of years, including News, Diary, Availability calendar, Competitions, Special offers, Stock control, Sales history.

Not every project is the same, and so the basic modules may need to be tweaked to suit, but at least you will not be paying for them to be built from scratch. If we do not have any existing code to draw upon then it is not a problem to design something bespoke.

I generally recommend that if you wish to enable payment processing on your website you couple it with the ability to manage your online store, simply because you need to be able to add and remove items in line with your stock situation, and not have to wait for a designer to find time to make the changes.

In terms of cost, building a site in this way is generally no more, often less, expensive than paying a designer to build every page that you need, particularly if the site contains many sections and sub-sections. However, if I feel that this would not be a cost-effective solution, I will say so, and will happily put together a static site if that is all that is required.

It is perfectly possible to integrate the facilities into an existing site; contact me for an obligation-free chat about your ideas.

Case Study : Carroll Cleaning content management system

Carroll Cleaning Services are specialists in industrial, retail and commercial window cleaning. Established in 1985 they have grown to become one of the leading cleaning companies in the South West.

I was commissioned to build a website with integrated content management system that would allow new pages and galleries to be created when needed, and that would enable the website to be found quickly.

The services, clients and testimonials sections do just this. New pages and galleries can be added, and the site navigation automatically reflects these changes.

With basic search engine optimisation training, Carroll Cleaning can now adjust their site's content to make sure they can be found. Within a couple of weeks of launch, the new website could be found on page two of google for certain key terms, up from nowhere.

"Anthony has provided us with an extremely easy to use system to manage our website. We are now able to efficiently, and effectively promote our cleaning services online, and, best of all, didn't need to spend an age learning how to do so. The system just works. Many thanks."
